The difference between an adoption that happens and one that doesn't often comes down to words — specifically, the 100–200 words in an animal's adoption listing that either connect with a potential adopter or don't. For years, writing those words was another task on an already overloaded coordinator's to-do list, often done at 11pm, resulting in generic, rushed, and forgettable bios.
What We Measured
We partnered with 12 rescue organizations across six states to measure the actual impact of AI-generated adoption bios on adoption outcomes. Each organization ran a 90-day study. The results were consistent across organizations of different sizes, in different regions, and working with different species: 34% higher inquiry rate on animals with AI bios, 2.1x more adoption applications per listing, 18% faster average time from listing to adoption, and 91% of coordinators preferred the AI-drafted version.
What Makes AI Bios Different
The advantage isn't that AI writes better than humans — it's that AI writes better than a human who has 12 other things to do and is trying to finish intake paperwork before midnight. AI bio generators work by taking the structured data you've already entered — species, breed, age, temperament notes, medical history, behavioral observations — and turning it into a narrative that sounds like it was written by someone who really knows this animal.
The Elements of an Effective Adoption Bio
Personality before appearance
Adopters fall in love with personalities, not coat colors. The best bios lead with what the animal is like — their quirks, their favorite things, what makes them special.
Specific details over generic claims
"Loves kids" is forgettable. "Falls asleep on the couch next to the seven-year-old in his foster home every night" is memorable. Specificity creates trust.
Honest about challenges
Bios that acknowledge a dog's challenges perform better than ones that present animals as perfect. Adopters know animals have quirks. Acknowledging them builds trust and leads to better matches.
The Time Savings Add Up
Coordinators in our study reported spending an average of 12–18 minutes writing a bio manually. With AI assistance, the process took 2–3 minutes. For a rescue processing 50 animals per month, that's 8–12 hours of coordinator time saved every month.
