A PRM — Pet Rescue Management platform — is software designed specifically to manage the full operations of animal rescue organizations. The "platform" distinction matters. A PRM isn't just a database or a form builder — it's an integrated system where all relationships connect. An animal's record connects to its foster family's profile, its transport history, its medical records, its adoption applications, and eventually its adoption record. Nothing lives in isolation.

How a PRM Differs from General Rescue Software

Not all rescue management software qualifies as a PRM. Some tools are primarily animal databases — good at storing records, weak on workflow automation. Each relationship has its own data — placement dates, check-in logs, application status, vet visit records — that should flow automatically through the system.

The highest-value layer of a PRM is automation. Automated vaccine reminders before due dates. Automated acknowledgment emails to adoption applicants. Automated check-in requests to foster volunteers. Automated grant-ready impact reports. These automations don't just save coordinator time — they're the difference between an organization that operates reactively and one that operates proactively.

Why "Network" Changes Everything

For a single rescue organization, most rescue software works reasonably well. For a rescue network — multiple partner organizations coordinating animal movement, sharing foster capacity, and running joint transports — the requirements are significantly more complex. The tipping point for most rescue networks is around 20–30 animals in care or 3+ active partner organizations.
